Our Jewish community must stand united for Israel (Commentary)
On a day that was supposed to be the happiest day of the Jewish calendar, our brothers and sisters in Israel woke up to what we later realized was the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.
I struggle with the words to even describe the unimaginable horror that so many Israelis experienced in their last moments, the devastation of their loved ones in the aftermath, the fear and pain of those whose family and friends are still missing or held hostage, and the wave of emotion that has crossed the world.
The loss and the trauma would be more than enough to devastate our communities, but that is not all that we face right now. Israelis, people with family in Israel, Jews and other people around the world who are connected in so many ways, now face the added gut punch of widespread support for and “understanding” of Hamas’ actions.
