Press Release: The Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts’ Springfield Council of Jewish Women Awarded Forty-Eight Scholarships to Students in Western Massachusetts

THE JEWISH FEDERATION OF WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS’ SPRINGFIELD COUNCIL OF JEWISH WOMEN AWARDED FORTY-EIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

SCJW scholarships awarded to students from Chicopee, Springfield, East Longmeadow, Longmeadow, Wilbraham, Hampden, Agawam, and West Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA June 7, 2023 – The Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts’ Springfield Council of Jewish Women (SCJW) Scholarship Committee members held The Eleanore A. Dunn Scholarship Breakfast today at Sinai Temple in Springfield to award forty-eight scholarships totaling more than $70,000 to qualified students from Chicopee, Springfield, East Longmeadow, Longmeadow, Wilbraham, Hampden, Agawam, and West Springfield.

The scholarships were given out through the Federation’s Jewish Endowment Foundation. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the first scholarship award.  Scholarship recipients were selected based on a combination of academic, financial need and community involvement. Once selected, students are eligible to renew their awards for their full four years of college.

About The Springfield Council of Jewish Women

The Springfield Council of Jewish Women (SCJW) established its first scholarship fund in 1943 and has grown substantially since then and has awarded more than $2.5 million dollars to financially assist thousands of local students in their pursuit of higher education. In 1992, the SCJW transferred their funds to the Jewish Endowment Foundation of Western Massachusetts. Scholarships are available to all qualified students regardless of race, religion, or gender. Scholarship recipients are chosen based on a combination of academic performance, financial need, and school and community involvement. Students are eligible to renew their awards for their full four years of their undergraduate collegiate career.
