Celebrating 80 Years of Jewish Education and Community
Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy (LYA) is proud to be celebrating its 80th year. LYA was founded in 1945, in response to the Greater Springfield Jewish community’s need for a quality Jewish day school to promote Judaism and Jewish awareness. In 1999, LYA became the first Jewish day school to be accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). LYA is a warm and nurturing environment with dedicated staff members and administrators who are attuned with the needs of each student and are committed to the success of each student.
Close to 100 students attend LYA each year from across the spectrum of Jewish life including unaffiliated families. Students represent a large geographic area and attend school from Western Massachusetts, Northern Connecticut, and Southern Vermont.
LYA supports Israel with a biennial middle school trip to Israel. In the aftermath of the horrific events of Simchas Torah (10/7) in Israel, students rallied to add additional prayers, recite Tehilim (Psalms) and conduct a fundraiser to provide warm coats for members of the IDF. Students wrote letters and cards that were hand-delivered to IDF soldiers during Chanukah 2024.
In addition to the day school and early childhood program, LYA has a Hebrew School, a teen program for children and young adults. LYA offers 14 weekly adult education opportunities, outreach and holiday programming for people of all ages.
For many people, LYA is the center of their Jewish observance and the place they choose for lifecycle events. LYA is here for all people who come to meet with the rabbis and rebbetzins for advice for life.
LYA is proud to be an affiliated agency of the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts. The annual support from JFWMA and the Jewish Endowment Foundation enables LYA to provide tuition subsidies for students, scholarships for the students’ trip to Israel, among other areas of support, has assisted LYA with enhancing security at the school.

LYA serves 90+ students annually from Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, and unaffiliated families.

The elementary program is divided into Early Primary, for grades K-2, and Primary, for grades 3-5.

LYA emphases academic achievement, developing a Jewish identity and building a strong sense of community responsibility.
